Hm... I rarely do Perl. I once did a three week project that was done
almost completely in Perl, but most of the time I earn my money with other
stuff ;-)
Last time I've been using it in 2600 context was with some weird idea I
had:
There I bugged Eckhard long enough to create me a Z26 version that traced
only AUD register writes.
The plan was to create a simple solution to rip all VCS music in a unified
format, so unlike SID/NSF stuff all ripped VCS music could be played by a
single player, not requiring to individually rip all code and data for
every single tune. In fact you'd just play the game long enough to get to
hear the desired tune completely, then all required data could be
extracted from the trace log :-)
Well, getting back to Perl, IIRC used it to transmogrify the Z26 AUD trace
to source code data.
Thinking of it now, it's been so long that I don't even remember what
stopped me eventually. I still have Z26_AUD here, but the Perl script
seems to be gone...
